Announcement Community Grants 2009 Jan 7th, 2010

At our January reception, Mr. Warren Woytuck, Principal of Banff Elementary School spoke to the group and encouraged all to view the world through a lens of "Community. Leadership. and Philanthropy" Following this inspirational message, Vice Chair Bart Donnelly and Treasurer Rob Cote introduced community groups and presented thirteen cheques in support of local projects.

From Elders to the Environment, from social to mental health support, from digital movie making to understanding our First Nation Elders, the following thirteen projects will receive over $52,500. of funding support:

Town of Banff

Community Greenhouse - to build a  community greenhouse with raised beds, offering groups a chance for skill development related to growing local produce

Town of Banff

H2HC - The Homelessness to Housing Committee  - short-term emergency housing solutions for residents Winter 2010

Banff Volunteer Centre

Grey for Green - Timed to coincide with Parks Canada 125th anniversary celebrations - linking older volunteers with local environmental, conservation and stewardship projects

Banff Elementary School

Food for Learning - provide a healthy lunch for any student in need

Banff Elementary School

Environment Citizenship Outreach and Art projects - Grade 2 and 3 students will use their artistic talents to create reusable shopping bags and earth friendly cleaning products

Banff - Exshaw School Exchange

All Together Now - intercultural exchange with Banff school children and First Nations Stoney/Nakoda  children and Elders

Banff Elementary School Council

Active Living - encouraging students to try new pursuits, remain active and make healthy choices for life

Banff Community High School

Bluebird Houses - Environmental Education Students to construct and erect bluebird houses in  townsite and encourage stewardship and bird watching

Banff Mineral Springs Hospital

Meals on Wheels - to subsidize food costs for program that supports clients living in community

To install ceiling track lift for common bathing area in Martha's Place  Continuing Care Unit

Schizophrenia Society of Alberta

Banff Clubhouse - to provide social programs for chronically ill adults living with mental conditions  who often live in isolation

Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley

Youth Movie Making Project - with professional guidance, BCHS students will plan, film, direct and edit their own environmental films of personal interest. To participate in film festivals

The Banff Centre

Banff International String Quartet Competition - Young performers take Chamber Music out of the concert halls of The Banff Centre and perform in the community.
